Windows to the soul
Evert A. Robles creates Art that is a synthesis of all times and cultures, reflecting that humanity has one consciousness. It stretches our imagination and echoes both the past and the future. It challenges us to look deeper, beneath the surface, into the Soul.
Robles is born in one of the world's most culturally divers places on earth: Paramaribo, Suriname .After that he lives in the Netherlands, Germany and the US. At the age of twenty he moves back to Holland, after a few years settling in Amsterdam, where he is currently living and working.
He works in many different media. On this site you can see paintings in acrylics, graphic art, photography, digital photo-montage and hand colored photographs made over the last twenty years. Robles also works with video and is a designer for print and web.
In 1993 Robles makes his solo debut with shows at two Amsterdam galleries. Since then he also exhibits his work several galleries and shows in America and Italy .
Robles builds his compositions by utilizing multiple images often creating a mirror-like effect. About the Atlantis series he says: “I am an Alchemist. I am looking for shapes within shapes, finding deeper layers in the image.” The longer you look, the more figures appear. These counterpoised visuals are windows to the soul.
He often uses the female figure, housed within various environmental scenarios, to convey emotional states and evolutionary stages of the human experience.
The settings are neither fixed in time nor space. This “transnational” identity is a new and powerful theme that is definitive of a twenty-first century experience.
His work is about the conscious evolution of spiritual man. Robles offers his unique symbolism as a positive contribution to this global process. |
